The most expensive item at CES 2008

Friday, January 11th, 2008

So the Consumer Electronics Show (2008) is going great so far. The CES is one of the largest technology-related trade shows in the world. Held annually in Las Vegas, the show is not open to the public. This year’s show saw Philip’s power-saving Eco TV win Best in Show, Sony’s announcement of a Blu-Ray (BD-ROM) drive that will cost less than $200 and the formal announcement of Bill Gates’ retirement from day-to-day duties at Microsoft.

The most expensive item at the CES this year is a set of speakers from KEF, known for their unusual loudspeaker engineering, displayed their Muon luxury speakers at this year’s show. KEF Audio are manufacturers of high quality speaker for home cinema, hi-fi and custom installation applications. The super-formed aluminum speakers, using a special fabrication process similar to vacuum forming, were created to combine industrial design aesthetics with the best possible acoustic engineering. The result is 253 lbs of speaker with a maximum output of 118 decibels. The state-of-the-art technology inside the speakers makes sure that the speakers produce the clearest sound possible.

You’ll have to act fast if you want these six-and-a-half speakers, though, as they are limited to only 100 pairs. The most expensive CES 2008 item retail for around $140,000 and are available in only ten countries worldwide, possibly 10 to be distributed in each country. These are the very best in speaker equipment right now, the sound that comes out of these speakers are so crisp its amazing.

So here is the list of Gizmodo’s top 10 booths of CES 2008. The better a company’s booth is at any type of conference and show hall the better the business presence is in the industry. Its all about impressing people.

intel booth ces 2008
1. Intel’s booth, Gizmodo’s favorite spins laptops in a helix towards an intel sign at the top. Pretty nice for the Silicon Valley based CPU manufacturers

2. The Blu-ray disk booth, based on the Pirates of the Caribbean movies the Gizmodo team got to go inside an chill out with the booth chicksIts realism, created by the same artisans, set designers and carpenters who make Disney World so appealing.

3. LG stack a tonne of TV’s on top of each other showing us even more effectively than last year that life is indeed good.

4. Belkin’s stylish booth came in at 4th on the Gizmodo top 10 list.

5. The Nordic cool of the Philips booth appealed to our aesthetic sensibility, and its thick cushy carpet made sense.

6. These oversized Eneloop batteries, jutting out of the show floor like so many electric phalluses, made the guys at Gizmodo laugh while making them like the product even more.

7. The giant Samsung booth dominated the show floor, roadblocking the area and offering no exit from its back side.

8. As far as waterfalls of TVs go, Sharp does ‘em best, filling the air with its beauteous Aquos displays. Pretty. Look at how many TV’s there are!

9. The sony booth apparently felt inviting and relaxing, and there was a separate area for the Sony Pictures division where you could just relax and watch some TV for a while.

frampton_ces.jpg10. Gibson had a huge party tent set up in the parking lot, touting its fab new robotic guitars and such. But the kicker was the big-name bands and gigsters they had playing every night. For example, here’s Peter Frampton. There were celebs hanging around, to.

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Yet another excuse to take another look at a hot Veronica Belmont, I mean… Another hot gadget from CES 2008.
This time, check out the wireless powering system from eCoupled. The guys from Engadet where apparently promised some burgers on a eCoupled powered grill before "power fluctuations" kept them from previewing anything more than a Zune that lit up when placed directly on a charging pad.

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Check out the curved display prototype previewed at CES 2008 by Alienware. Mahalo Daily’s saucy chick Veronica Belmont tells us what games she would like to play on the display. The Curve has a resolution of 2880×900 pixels and a ridiculously fast response time of 0.02ms which is so much better than LCD. Release is planned for the back end of the year, so if you want one you best start saving now. The video was posted by Engadget on Youtube. The screen looks amazingly hot and I am most certainly getting one when they are released.Via: Mahalo Daily & Engadget (Not Gizmodo)
Special thanks to: Veronica Belmont (For being hot and correcting us)
