Adobe AIR arrival to Linux now Official

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Adobe is not exactly a company known as friendly to Linux users, but now that is finally changing with the recent annoucement that they will be joining the Linux Foundation and that the only reasons they had not added Linux support for AIR until now is because they needed to wait for development to Flash core components to end first. This recent news provides a triple punch making official that Adobe will be now supporting their most widespread technologies for Linux at par with the development done in Windows and the Mac because they are now part of the Linux Foundation, that Flash for linux is now up to date compared to the other platforms and that thanks to that they will now be providing Adobe AIR 1.0 for linux along with Flex Builder for everyone to use.

While this moves may look as good spirited. I think that is only about the PR boost they expect to receive in exchange what Adobe is interested and because they knew they needed the good PR to balance things with Microsoft recent moves in this area.

Anyway, still a win for the Linux Crowd that now can go and download a Alpha version of Adobe AIR 1.0 and should finally be blessed with a better experience while handling Flash content.

Amazing Google Focused Linux PC’s Dropped By Wal-Mart Stores

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

The plan for the Google orientated Linux PC has been dropped by super market giants Wal-mart. The Everex gPC launched in October with a $199 price tag and an operating system that focused on search engine Google.

The system actually looks very good, it focuses on applications such as Mozilla firefox, Gmail and GTalk. I personally think for $199 this is superb and should be marketed more worldwide.

The operating system has a beautiful user interface and below is a list of applications focused in the system.

Web software
Also the desktop software is compiled of the best open source applications available listed below.

With this system you can do everything you can normally on a system such as Mac OSX and Windows vista based but the price is very different, the fact it comes readily equipped with the applications is one plus factor, it saves time downloading the applications to get started.

Since going back on the wal-mart shelves in November 2007sadly it has been dropped and again it is looking hard for Linux to break into the mainstream consumer market.

Hopefully we can see this system trailed out in supermarket chains across the UK and Europe. Also for this to be pushed into schools as its much cheaper for the authorities and governments. Lets hope this wonderful and most importantly low prices system and group of applications can have a brighter future.
