Mozilla Secretly Rise Up To The Viral Video Bandwagon

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Software company Mozilla who are the producer and provider of the award-winning Firefox web browser and Thunderbird e-mail software have launched videos which have wound up being hosted over at our friends Google’s Youtube, I’m actually wearing my YouTube T-Shirt right now, is a viral ad from Mozilla which features Youtuber, singer Tay Zonday of  "Chocolate Rain" who has performed on TV chat shows. The video is a song "Firefox Rise Up Viral Video" . This is a new secret crazy video posted by Mozilla. This comes after other viral videos such as Kina Grannis with Gota Digg. Covered on TechCrunch today is a secret viral campaign launched by the creators of the impressive and well used, Internet Explorer competitor web browser Mozilla Firefox  and sister Email client Thunderbird which is first choice for a major amount web users  and is a solid  replacement for competing Email client, Microsoft Outlook express and Windows mail.

It is meant to be a viral video to help with the promotion of Mozilla Firefox web browser, with the competition that Microsoft places on the market with Internet Explorer. Recently we have seen other Viral ads from Apple showing the benefits of using Operating system Windows Vista, which I am currently using due to its wide range of uses which combine media, business and gaming. Products such Apple’s operating systems Leopard and  Tiger which compete with Microsofts Windows vista home, premium and ultimate. We see viral ads posted all over Yotube. The ideas behind the Mac vs Windows ads with the two guys are being portrayed in fellow YouTuber, Londons very own BenLoka, Ben has used the ideas to create a video blog announcing the fact he has just converted from Windows to Mac.

The video posted 3 months ago has already got over 13,000 views and is a fine display of Loka’s amazing online comedy talent. The Mac way to get at Microsoft is a set of pretty up front videos attacking there level of stability and have featured Robert Webb and David Mitchell from hit comedy Peep show. Mitchell plays a geeky old PC and Webb plays a cool Mac something Loka portrays in his video this time using himself for both characters. The video can be seen here in this link: BenLoka in Mac vs PC on Youtube.com

The once "Face of Youtube", Loka’s videos are mostly a perfect example of very successful and funny viral video. Starting with the Mac commercial replied to though Loka’s announcement in his video blog and such as his other  parody video for Social networking site Facebook, is being remixed for another viral video which is currently in production.

Loka teams up with hip hop legend Jay-Z in a Facebook remix parody posted by Youtubes MiscellaneousP. Social networking viral videos are quite common with Myspace and Facebook parody’s being posted frequently.

Many videos have been posted by apple over the years and even show them as TV commercials and show them at movie theatres. Loka however may have to keep posting on Youtube before his TV break comes. Fellow Youtubers such as CharlieIsSoCoolLike has appeard and has been featured on BBC morning chat shows and has had his videos in the local paper too. Loka made his video blog about Facebook which then lead to Loka and Jay-z in Facebook Remix which is the way that viral marketing works. Especially with Youtube video reply feature.

The Mozilla videos which have just started to appear on video sharing sites are the next snowball to hit Youtube and the next attack on Microsofts products by a competing company and product.

The video for Firefox rise up has had coverage over at good old TechCrunch mentioning Mozillas main campaign which is Fight Against Boredom which has also got a fake blog. Fight Agianst Boredom which apparently means don’t use Internet Explorer Get Firefox. Recently the site was taken down due to "Some people finding some of the information given offensive!" Weather this is Bill Gates throwing his toys out of the cradle because he see’s the threat already apposed against Microsoft’s software. Below is some suggested reasons covered in TechCrunch, they display bluntly what Mozilla think of Microsoft.

Compared to Internet Explorer users, Firefox users are:

* 21% less likely to be a sales representative or agent at their current place of business.
* 45% more likely to have gone on vacation in San Francisco within the last 2 years.
* 33% less likely to live with others suffering from high cholesterol.
* 6% less likely to have eaten any meal at Chick-fil-A within the last 7 days.
* 24% less likely to live with others suffering from heart disease.
* 66% more likely to have viewed or listened to audio or video about politics or public affairs news within the last 30 day.
* 89% more likely to have purchased database software for work in the last year.
* 38% less likely to live with others suffering from breast cancer.

It seems all you need is a combination of a funny or shocking video mixed with Michael Arrington leading Technology site TechCrunch and Google’s Youtube for distribution of a viral video. We here on Lushable.com will make sure we cover more video viral ad campaigns.
